According to BloombergNEF (BNEF) data, the capacity of companies to purchase clean energy (mainly solar and wind energy) in 2020 has soared to a record 23.7GW. And this upward trend will continue in 2021.
Policy conditions in some markets are being relaxed, providing convenience for companies to obtain clean energy. In Europe, markets such as Spain, Italy, France, and Poland have become hot spots for purchasing clean energy. In Asia, Taiwan will officially liberalize its electricity market in 2020, opening up options for power purchase agreements and other procurement mechanisms. South Korea issued a similar policy at the end of 2020, and Japan is expected to be the next one.
With the decline in the cost of renewable electricity, the demand for sustainable energy from businesses, consumers and government agencies continues to increase. This can also be seen from the significant increase in the number of RE100 members worldwide. In this global initiative launched in 2014, 300 companies from more than 175 markets have pledged to use 100% renewable energy power.
